Benefits of admitting mistakes

“It’s better to have tried and failed, than to never have attempted [within reason].”

I got writer’s block writing this one, maybe because I’m afraid that it won’t come out the way I want it to. But here it is, mistakes and all.

Mistakes may happen when a person trying different methods to achieve an objective, which shows that a person is creative, persistent, and proactive in reaching a goal.

The worst mistakes, are mistakes that are ‘covered up’, these mistakes never stay hidden, and they are bound to create more issues in the future. For example, seeing that there is an issue in a CRM System, and not reporting it, or getting feedback from a customer, and not feeding back to management.

Top tips for owning your mistakes:

Be proactive: don’t wait for an issue to arise, reduce the risk of it happening in the first place, this applies to everyone working in the organisation, from the bottom to the top and the top to the bottom. 

Admitting mistakes If you already do that, encourage others within the business to do it as well.

Take ownership: You make it your responsibility to ensure that you either change the process, or be part of the process change. This makes it a beneficial mistake.

Owning your mistakes is not only an admirable character trait, but it is imperative to business success, and even more important than business success, it is the safety of those working to run the business.
